A "very refreshing development" indeed

2 December 21, 2010
The Great Bear was featured in Condé Nast's yesterday. Here's a copy of the review:
URSA MAJOR IS OUT OF THIS WORLD. There are two kinds of men’s skincare lines—they’re either offshoots of an already established women’s beauty brand, or they’re tragically cheesy, marketing-driven ventures aimed at capturing guys’ attention with ads, not quality products (”Double pit to chesty?” What does that even mean?!). Which is why Ursa Major is a very refreshing development. The Vermont-based, resolutely natural skincare line recently launched with one product: the Stellar Shave Cream. Here’s what it doesn’t have: parabens, sulfates, petroleum-derived chemicals, glycols, ethoxylated chemicals, ethanolamines, synthetic colors or polymers, silicones, phthalates, chemical sunscreens, or any trace of formaldehyde. Instead, the rich, non-foaming cream is formulated with natural ingredients like aloe and birch and sunflower extracts. Another bonus: Rather than synthetic fragrances, it boasts essential oils like organic Grand Fir, vetiver, and organic ginger. A boyfriend-assisted test-drive yielded the following information. It’s super-concentrated so you don’t need to use nearly as much as with traditional varieties and it works wonders on even the toughest whiskers, yielding an extraordinarily smooth shave. And, “it smells awesome.” Though the shave cream is the only star currently in Ursa Major’s constellation, the line will expand to include a lotion, a cleanser, and a toner come springtime.
