Green Up Day

This past Saturday, communities all over the state gathered for the 45th Green Up Day in Vermont. Founded in 1970 by Gov. Deane C. Davis, Green Up Day was the first of its kind in the country (it seems only natural that the green mountain state be the first to implement a statewide cleaning day). The first Green Up Day succeeded beyond expectations with four thousand truck loads carrying over 20,000 cubic yards of trash hauled by the Highway Department from the Interstate and other state roads. An equal amount was gathered by thousands of volunteers from the town roads. Every year, the state continues to see huge community involvement. Yet another reason to be proud of the state we live in where folks strive to, “Live the Green Up Way Every Day!”
