    What is Retinal?  

    Short for retinaldehyde, Retinal is one of the strongest forms of vitamin A available without a prescription. It helps rewind the look of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting skin renewal and boosting collagen. 

    Like Retinol, its well-known relative, Retinal must convert to its active form, Retinoic Acid, before it can do its job. The difference? Retinol requires 2 conversion steps, while Retinal needs just 1—allowing it to get to work faster on skin.

    How and when do I use this product?  

    At night, apply 1-2 pumps of Lunar Bloom Retinal Serum before applying the moisturizer of your choice. No matter your skin time, we recommend starting slowly (using up to 3 times a week) to allow your skin to acclimate, before building up to nightly use.

    Non-negotiable: Pair this nighttime serum with a daytime SPF, as retinoids can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun!

    Is this product safe for sensitive skin?  

    Short answer: Yes. We chose Retinal for its potency (it’s 20x stronger than Retinol!) so we only needed 0.1% in our formula to deliver results, as well as supportive actives like Ceramides to help soothe skin. Also, because Retinal requires fewer steps to convert to its active form, tiny doses are often gentler than high doses of Retinol (which take twice as long to activate, often irritating skin more).

    For those with sensitive skin, we recommend starting slow (using 2-3x a week) to let your skin adjust. You can also try making a “Retinal sandwich” when starting out: applying a layer of moisturizer both before & after your serum.

    Is this product pregnancy-safe?  

    This product is not recommended for those who are pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive.

    Does this product contain fragrance?  

    Lunar Bloom Retinal Serum is unscented.

    We totally understand that skincare is not one-size-fits-all and that everyone’s skin is unique. If you are not satisfied with your Ursa Major products, you may return your product for a full refund or store credit within 30 days of receiving your order.

      First Retinal that's worked for me!

      I've tried a few 'natural' retinal and retinol serums and either I didn't notice any difference or they dried my skin out too much. I am applying this over a moisturizer in the evening 3x per week and I've noticed my skin more luminous and even without it drying out too much. I'm excited to see continued results!

      Magic in a bottle

      I waited a few weeks before reviewing the Lunar Bloom Retinal Serum because I wanted to truly see results first. I’m blown away by how quickly I’m seeing a more youthful glow to my skin. I use it daily at night and never experienced any discomfort on my sensitive skin. It goes on similar to the Mountain Glow Serum (which I use daily in the mornings and love!). It’s silky and soothing, and layers well under the Alpine Rich Cream, and it does not irritate my eyes. I have some fine lines and sun spots on my aging skin, and after a few weeks of using the retinal, I’m noticing a softer texture to my skin and a definite fading of lines and spots. I’m almost 47 and am often told by strangers that I look much younger than my age, which I 100% attribute to my Ursa Major skincare routine and products. I’m excited to see how adding the Lunar Bloom Retinal Serum at night continues to keep my skin glowing as I age!
